Friday First - Delight in the Word

Over the course of February we have taken a very practical look at how to deepen our spiritual roots. We’ve talked about how our spiritual growth and transformation begins with an unyielding thirst for God. We have also talked about securing our thoughts.

On Sunday we will discuss another key ingredient in how to deepen our spiritual roots by considering the word of God and our meditation on it. One of the best passages that encapsulates this is Psalm 1. Here we see the importance of delighting in the word of God.

Psalm 1:
  • shows us two ways to live
  • shows us the result of righteous living, which is being fruitful, durable, and prosperous
  • warns us about the end of the wicked

How can we come to delight in the word more consistently every day? What can we do when we struggle with our desire to take in the word?

As you prepare for worship, please think about these questions.
  1. What is God’s message to us about the fainting prosperity of the wicked? Why is it important to keep this in mind?
  2. How can you direct your life to be more oriented around the word?
  3. What is mediation? Do you make time to focus on the Word? What can you do to excel more?
  4. How have you been blessed because you are a child of God?
  5. Why is prayer so vital in helping with our desire for the Word?
